Sunday, March 20, 2016
People always attached by memories. Either a good
or a bad ones. I believe everybody have their own bittersweet memories that
they want to cherish all their life. This is about things that we shared as a
80s- 90s babies.
In this post, I will list down to five categories
that will somehow bring smiles to your face while reminiscing those good old
days. Yes! old is gold. Let's check it out! Put you thumbs up if you can
relate to this.
WARNING: THIS POST MIGHT BRING YOU BACK TO THE GOOD OLD
DAYS

The best games in our childhood memories were
probably hide-and-seek, tuju-kasut, paper-doll games, teng-teng or
galah panjang. For the boys maybe marbles/ guli, fishing-with
homemade joran, homemade kites, homemade snipers (well, boys that times used to
made a lot of things themselves)
Oh ya! Have you forgot the excitement while playing
grab-the-pole game (rebut tiang)? I can still freshly remember how
innocent and playful we were during that time. By the way, do you remember
playing card with your friends in class? Normally we played this game after examination period ended and
yes, normally all classes were canceled yet we still come to school just
to play games. The most popular game cards during my time were Happy Family, Old
Maid, Snap and Donkey. Can you still name some? I'm wondering, do kids nowadays still play
this at school?
Hide and seek? – Of course our another memorable
childhood memory. Watching Running Man play this game will remind us of our childhood.
Of course their hide and seek is in a cooler set up and much modern but still... Sometimes this game can
last for hours. You can fall asleep while waiting to be found. And sometime
your parents have to call it quits because it last longer than you think -friend,
why can't you find me?

I still remember when my group of friends (around 10-15 person) will come to my house every evening to play the game. My house have a very big lawn. That's why its always a perfect place for us to run-catch-throw-revive-built *you know what I mean right? OMG! I miss those time and sometime I think I want to play this game again. Some of my friends that used to be in this group already/getting married and having kids. How time flies so fast. Do you have the same attached feeling to this game?

#2.TV shows/ movies
Still remember Honey, I Shrunk The Kids? Home
Alone, Cili Padi, Anak-Anak Sidek? A.L.O.N.G ? Power Rangers ?
Masked Rider ? Dragon Ball ? Still remember how we always stick in front of TV
to watch
this?

Well, we can't leave out WWF right?
"The Rock is cooking" , Austin 's 3:16 Kane & The Undertaker.
Well, girls will probably fall for Hardy Boyz. When we enter high school, Hillary Duff's movie
like Lizzy McGuire, A Cinderella Story and TV shows like Smallville, One Tree
Hill, Meteor Gardens, GTO, Rosalinda Ay Amor, My Fair Princess,
Journey to the West (many more wuxia & TVB dramas) were the show that we love to watch and really popular too.
Don't say that you never heard or watch it! and we probably skip tuition or evening class for that. Beg to differ?

#3.JUNK
FOOD 'CIKIDIS'
We definitely have our favorite "cikidis"
during our childhood time right? I still remember how excited I cycled to the grocery
store to buy my Ding Dang or Tora. If I have extra school money, I will
buy Jo Jo or other other expensive ones. Yes! Jo Jo is considered expensive for me at
that
time.

Those excitement when I buy Ding Dang or Tora is evergreen. Its not the
chocolate-coated biscuits that I'm looking forward too, but the
"mystery" gift inside that tiny magic box. Have you got that feeling?
I will go upset if I got something that I don't wish for. Normally Tora have
better gift than Ding Dang and of course Jo Jo is superior!
Beside that mystery-box cikidis, I like to eat Super
Ring (It’s my favourite until now). Another one that leave me with a good memory is sate-ikan from pakcik with a modified motorcycle. I
used to buy it every day after religious class 10 sticks for 50 cents only! Even though we can still find this food now, but I think eating
that kind of food dafter religious class is the best feeling.

#4. Fashion
Looking back at our childhood photos - Oh! That fashion.
You will somehow get the cringe y feeling. How on earth did I wear that?
pic from google
Baggy pants were the most popular fashion back
then. The more patched pockets in those baggy pants, the cooler we will feel.
We will definitely choose pants two time bigger than our supposed size. Cuff
your pants was another fashion statement that you feel cool. It’s ROCKING BEBEH
!! For shirts, we normally want it to have the brand name stated out big and
clear. Popular brand? - Body Gloves, Wild Channel, Nike, Puma, alien workshop
and Adidas. They make us superior than others. Don't you agree? But, we
don't really care whether the brands are original or not. Well, the night
market versions are always the right choice - affordable yet stylish! Another one that was so popular among the boys is the "M style "haircuts for boys. This haircuts only give justice to popular or handsome boys at school. This is definitely not for a nerd one. LOL!!
Well, I
can say that almost every young girl (during my time) is more to tomboyish
fashion. We don't bring makeup like almost kids do nowadays. We think wearing boys’
clothes are more stylish. Yes, of course there are pretty-girlish girl type too
(They normally love pink)!

#5.Idols
Everyone must have their childhood favourite idol.
Be it Hollywood, Bollywood or Malaywood (locals). We collect things
related to our idols. Magazines cuts, Name cards, Lyric books, and even their
fashion like bracelet or rings. Agree or not, we still listen or re-watching
their works even today. Westlife, Backstreet Boys, 'Nsync, New Boyz, Boboy,
Spin, the 3 Khans , Hrithik Roshan, Britney Spears, Spice Girls, S Club 7 - our
childhood idols
I still remember how I always waiting in front of
my radio for the THR Hindi Power segment , I used to steal my
sister's cassette and rewrite it with the Hindi songs from that segment. This
is during my primary school age. During 90s to early 2000s, Bollywood were
so famous in Malaysia that when we go to pasar malam aka night market,
we were always entertained by the Bollywood songs played by the VCDs booths.
Can you recall that? Girls will always talks about how handsome Salman Khan,
Shah Rukh Khan, Amir Khan at School. I still remember my best friend, Liyana
& Athirah. They used to fangirling over Shah Rukh Khan and Hrithik Roshan
while Salman Khan was my my hero.
So, are you a 80s-90s babies? Do you agree with the
list and want to share your memories? Leave me your story below!
Thank you for reading this long post !
